If you searched for windshield replacement near me from north-east Raleigh, the nearest windshield service is the one that comes to your car. Raleigh Windshield Auto Glass is the Raleigh windshield service of Impex Auto Glass, and in Raleigh the replacement is done where the vehicle is parked: your driveway in Mordecai, the office lot in Midtown, the apartment space in Brentwood or Wake Crossroads, or the job site off Capital Blvd.

Impex has shops in Greensboro and Charlotte, not in Raleigh, so there is no counter to drive to and no waiting room. Impex describes its service as mobile, with no-contact options. This page explains how the visit works: what the technician needs, what the weather does, how long you wait, what happens with the camera on newer cars, and what to do for the first day after.

What the technician needs on site
A windshield replacement is a careful job with a large piece of glass and an adhesive that has to bond cleanly. A mobile visit works when the spot allows it to be done properly. Here is what helps:
- Room round the car. Enough space to open both front doors fully and to stand at each front corner. A tight parking deck space can be a problem; an end space is better.
- A level spot. A steep driveway makes it harder to set the glass evenly in the opening.
- Dry glass and frame. Urethane needs a clean, dry surface to bond. A garage, carport or covered deck is ideal when rain is about.
- Access. Keys, or someone who can open the car, and permission to work in the lot if it belongs to an employer or apartment complex.
- The dash cleared. Take phone mounts, parking passes and anything stuck to the glass off before the technician arrives.
Apartment lots, offices and parking decks
A lot of north-east Raleigh drivers park in places they do not control: an apartment complex off Capital Blvd, a shared lot in Midtown, an office deck by the Beltline. A replacement there is usually fine, with a little planning.
- Check whether the complex or the employer allows vehicle work in the lot, and tell us if there is a gate code or a security desk.
- Pick a space at the end of a row or near open ground, so both front doors can open fully.
- In a deck, a space on a lower level keeps the car out of the rain, but the ceiling has to leave room to work over the hood.
- Say where the car is when you book: building, level and space number save time on the day.
If the spot will not work, the technician will say so before anything is taken apart, and the visit can move to another place or time.
When the weather moves the appointment
Rain is the main thing that stops a mobile windshield job, because the adhesive and the frame have to stay dry while the glass goes in. Heavy wind and very low temperatures can matter too: the Auto Glass Safety Council says minimum drive-away times vary with the type and brand of adhesive and the atmospheric conditions at the time of replacement. If the forecast turns, the appointment may be moved to a dry spell or a covered spot. A moved appointment is better than a windshield set in the wet.

How the visit runs
- Before the day. Impex checks the windshield against your VIN and orders the right glass, with the right sensors and brackets for your car.
- Arrival. The technician looks at the old glass and the car, confirms the job with you and covers the dash and seats.
- Out with the old. Wipers, cowl and trim come off and the old windshield is cut out of its urethane bead.
- The frame. The old adhesive is trimmed and the frame cleaned and primed where needed.
- In with the new. A fresh urethane bead goes on and the new windshield is set into it.
- Back together. Trim, wipers, mirror and sensors go back, and the glass is cleaned.
- The cure and the camera. The car stays parked while the urethane bonds, and the camera is calibrated if the car has one.
How long you wait
Impex’s guidance is about one hour for the replacement plus a short curing period, with most drivers back on the road within two hours. Calibration, when the car needs it, adds between 30 minutes and 2 hours by Impex’s figures. That is why many people book the visit at work: the car is parked anyway, and by the end of the shift it is ready.
Do not cut the cure short. The AGSC describes the windshield as part of the vehicle’s passenger restraint system that must be installed properly for the airbags to deploy safely, and the drive-away time exists so the adhesive has bonded before the car is driven.
Book the visit
Three short steps: the damage, your vehicle and how to reach you. Tell Impex where the car will be parked and whether it is under cover.
The camera on newer cars
If your car has a camera at the top of the windshield for lane departure warning, collision braking or adaptive cruise, the new windshield may mean the camera has to be aimed again. I-CAR lists windshield removal among the events that may call for it, and the requirements vary by year, make and model. Impex performs ADAS calibration on site after windshield replacement, with static and dynamic calibration in one visit. Static calibration uses targets set up in front of the parked car; dynamic calibration has the car driven at set speeds on clear roads. When you book, Impex will tell you how the calibration for your car will be done.
Before the technician arrives
- Toll transponder. If you use the Triangle Expressway or I-540 with a transponder on the windshield, mention it. It will need moving to the new glass.
- Dash camera or radar detector. Take it down, or say it is there.
- Parking permits. Mention any permit or sticker on the glass you will need replaced.
- The VIN. On the dash at the base of the windshield, on the driver’s door frame and on your registration card.
- Insurance details. If you are claiming, have the policy or claim number ready. Impex works with all major insurance providers.
The first day after
Impex’s aftercare is simple: for 24 hours, avoid washing the car and avoid slamming the doors. A slammed door pushes a pulse of air through the cabin and against the new glass while the adhesive is still settling. Leave a window open a crack if you need to shut a door firmly. Drive normally once the cure time you were given has passed.
Paying at your door
In North Carolina, glass breakage falls under comprehensive coverage, less your deductible; there is no zero-deductible glass law, though some policies include full glass coverage. Under G.S. 58-3-180 you choose who replaces the windshield and the insurer pays the same amount either way, and a comprehensive glass claim does not add Safe Driver Incentive Plan points. Impex quotes are fully inclusive, with no delivery, fuel or disposal fees, so the mobile visit adds no travel charge to the quote.

Questions drivers ask
Do you replace windshields at home?
Yes. In Raleigh the replacement is done where the car is parked: at home, at work, in an apartment lot or at a job site, as long as there is room round the car and a dry spot.
Do you have a location I can drive to in Raleigh?
No. Impex’s shops are in Greensboro (8748 W Market St) and Charlotte (5641 David Cox Rd). In Raleigh the technician comes to you.
Can you replace a windshield in the rain?
Not in the open. The adhesive needs a dry surface. A garage, carport or covered parking deck may work; otherwise the appointment moves to a dry spell.
How long does a mobile windshield replacement take?
Impex’s guidance is about one hour plus a short cure, with most drivers back on the road within two hours. Camera calibration, when needed, takes 30 minutes to 2 hours.
Is there an extra charge for coming to me?
Impex says its quotes are fully inclusive, with no hidden fees, delivery charges, fuel fees or disposal fees.
What happens to my toll transponder?
Tell the technician it is there. It is taken off the old windshield and needs fixing to the new one.
